In the latest episode of OTHERtone, Pharrell Williams and co-host Scott Verner were joined by singer/songwriter Jamie Woon and Skepta for a double-length episode. The first half of the show focused on Woon’s reemergence into the scene, with Williams praising his latest single ‘Sharpness’ and expressing his interest in collaborating with the star in the near future. For the remainder, Williams explored Skepta’s extensive back catalogue of hits and the two spoke about the feeling each track evoked and where he draws influence from. A rather humble Skepta also shed light on meeting Snoop Dogg for the first time, his passion for music and celebrating his birthday recently, which he emphasises that for him, the importance of a birthday isn’t in the ‘day’ as such, but it is more about reflecting on the year that was and the opportunity to continue living. Deep.
However, the highlight of the show doesn’t come until just before the 2-hour mark, where Skepta flips a monster freestyle over Travi$ Scott’s ‘Flying High’, with William’s on the assist covering Toro y Moi’s catchy hook. The chemistry between the two is clearly evident so don’t be surprised if the pair head into the studio together sometime soon.
For now, you can stream the episode in its entirety over on Apple Music right now.
