Skepta talks Konnichiwa with Zane Lowe for Beats 1

The rapper covers pressures from family to fans (because hurry up with the album already)

In the lead up to his fourth studio album, Skepta sat down with Zane Lowe to talked about everything from the way he was raised to the difference between people who make music for the love of music versus the love of money. The grime rapper’s upcoming album Konnichiwa seems to have changed the way he wants to go about making music.

“I’m not ever going to announce that I’m doing an album again,” he said, in reference to the long delay from the album’s original announcement last year. With the amount of people desperately waiting on this album, we can totally see where he’s coming from.

The two also talk about his relationship with Toronto rapper Drake. Whilst Drizzy isn’t actually on the album, Skepta might potentially be on Views From The 6. We’ll just have to wait and find out, because as he puts it, he’d rather wait than trying to “rush fake music”. In saying this, he sees the importance of making great music with friends rather than just trying to push out something to meet a demand.

Give the full interview a listen below, if not for the love of Skepta and grime, then at least for his accent.
