A regular fixture on Melbourne’s club scene, DJ Prequel plays a bit of everything, to everybody. Spinning hip-hop, funk/soul and every stupidly named permutation of electronica to underground heads and mainstream crowds, Prequel is nothing if not eclectic.

His debut The Joan Rivers EP has just been released and he kindly answers some Small Talk Qs with us. Download below!

My name is… Prequel

I live in… yhe American Garden Building on West Eighty-First Street, on the Eleventh floor.

My EP is called… The Joan Rivers EP

Some of the things that inspired it are… Joan Rivers, Joy O, Synkro, Thundercat, Flying Lotus, my friends telling me to release an EP of own work, a different musical direction and patience.

It’s cover art looks like… Joan Rivers with some shapes over her

My favourite track is… Passing Me By (Reprise)

The person I can imagine listening to it is… not Joan Rivers.

My favourite mixtape would include… music compiled for a specific mood/scenario. Also alternate takes of my favourite songs and left-field covers.

When I’m not making music I… don’t sleep much, watch a lot of films, collect music, eat takeaway food, have lunch at Mileto’s, go to gigs, hang with my friends, record voiceovers for mixtapes, think about making music, DJ, knit scarves.

The last thing I downloaded was… House Shoes new LP Let It Go. I paid for it by the way.

The next project I’m working on is… Either a single or another mini EP. Also working on a track with my Dad (on keys) and bass player, Lucas Taranto.
