Over the weekend, Dev Hynes posted to social media, announcing a new track called ‘Sandra’s Smile’, which dropped today alongside a video. Performing under his Blood Orange moniker, the track is dedicated to Sandra Bland, who suspiciously died in police custody in Florida earlier this year. The self-directed black-and-white tribute video was shot around New York City, and features cameos from rapper Junglepussy, singer Ian Isiah and subway dance collective Waffle Crew. With references to police brutality and Treyvon Martin’s mother, the track comes as part of one of Hynes’ many public moves against institutionalised racism.
