Resident Advisor have updated their insightful series into local dance music scenes throughout the world with an episode on the New York City underground dance scene. There are definitely some keen ears to the ground from all who went into making the video.

Early 90s DJs talk about surviving New York’s infamous Cabaret laws by way of special warning lights in the DJ booth which meant police were on their way (a no dancing law, really?) and dance music record store owners talk the gentrification of Brooklyn and what makes a real New Yorker.

The theme is the same throughout though, the New York creative scene is about reinvention. From the days when the lower east side was full of rats and artists, to today.
