The Weeknd recently dropped the video for his new single ‘In The Night’, which seems more like a trailer for a gruesome, action packed, thriller movie than a music video. Directed by BRTHR, the six-minute clip features the singer/songwriter’s current girlfriend and supermodel, Bella Hadid, who plays the role of a female entertainer caught up in some seemingly troubled behaviour. The dark tone clip, which is quite different from his usual video clips, is jam-packed with blood, guns, and plenty of suspense.

The grainy film combined with constant flashes of events create a sense of past time, whilst these flashes, alone, resemble an intro of the TV series, American Horror Story. Both add to this creepy feeling of being in an altered state of consciousness—which is definitely something we’re used to seeing with Weeknd. Quite a number of comments have also been made about the parallels of the video clip to Michael Jackson’s, but don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself.
