Usher and Nas add their voices to wave of artists speaking up about police brutality in the US. Shot entirely in black and white, the new video for ‘Chains’, featuring Bibi Bourelly and Nas, directly confronts this pressing issue which is still being experienced in America. We see Usher realise he is attending his own funeral, reinforcing the sign held up by a girl in the video that begs the question ‘Am I next?’

There is no doubt that this video is important. Keeping this conversation alive is one of Usher’s goals, with this video dropping in time for Black History Month. “‘Chains’ is my way of spreading light on the issues we face in our social injustice system,” he wrote on Twitter. “As artists we have to use our platform to spread awareness and inspire action.”

Last October, Usher dropped an interactive video on Tidal with images of those lost to police brutality and the overarching message “do not look away.”
