2015 reflections and 2016 predictions: Alexandra Hackett

Rise of TNs and the personal Instagram

Posted by

We asked some our creative mates to share their pivotal moments of the past year, as well as their predictions for 2016. Alexandra Hackett has been on our radar for some time, with the Melbourne designer making waves with her eccentric collections crafted from alternative materials. Think Ikea packaging, swing tags, and NASA space foil. The young talent is currently based in London, working hard and playing harder. Here are her thoughts on the coming year—the year she officially makes it.

What was your favourite pop culture moment of 2015?

When one of my images became an internet-famous meme on FuckJerry. Also that video of Serena Williams ordering an espresso mid-match because SAME.

Where was the best place you travelled to last year?

I went to NYC for the first time last year and that was sick. Caught up with SOPHIE and QT whilst I was there. We ate cream cheese bagels and I discovered Van Gogh branded Vodka. 100% would go again.

What was your favourite gig in 2015?

That’s such a hard question. The shortlist would be: A.G. Cook and Hannah Diamond at XOYO London, UV Boi in GoodGod Sydney, DJ Karaoke at Ace Hotel London, Basenji at Billboards and Falcons at The Nest London. Played my first DJ set last year too with DEER, Dugong Jr, Chiefs & Mikey Hundred which was so much fun, s/o Grey Marle Music.

What are you happy to leave behind as we move into 2016?

Kanye West.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Officially making it.

What are your top three trend predictions for 2016?

Sports-Latex replacing the Sports-Luxe trend

The rise of the ~personal~ instagram account (aka my professional is @a_l_c_h_ and my personal is @sportslexe)

TNs becoming mainstream (RIP)

What would you like to see more of this year?

Pairs of sneakers with purposely mismatched colour ways CC: Ronnie Fieg’s Asics ‘Homage’ and Nike’s Dunk Low ‘Yin & Yang’.

Do you have any resolutions for 2016?

To have better work-life balance. I haven’t had a day off this year and I work two jobs plus am running my own label so I don’t think I’m off to a great start. I also want to DJ at Nike Town in London by the end of the year. #goals.
