“Our lemons are back and pinker than ever. We’ve doubled our size, and our lemons are ripe; we’re branching out.”

What is Pink Lemon? I’d been to their first pop up earlier this year, a small gallery space in Richmond, filled with an exclusive collection of art and designs produced by young talent from around Melbourne. “Following the tide of creativity,” according to the founders, “our pop ups provide everything from art to craft and design.”

This was all well and good, but the second time round I really wanted to decipher what all the fuss was about.

They opened V2, their second pop up, July 29 to a mass crowd. It was a huge deal; young creatives literally flooding the street. Inside was even more manic, in the best possible way – free booze, DJs, and a plethora of stock for sale. The venue was much bigger this time; the Lemon had expanded. The atmosphere was buzzing. All were excited. And then it hit me. Pink Lemon is a movement. It’s a voice for young Australian creatives. It’s a collective for the eclectic image of youth. It’s a hub of vibrancy. It’s a platform for youth expression. It’s encouraging, and welcoming. And it’s pretty impressive.

Want to be introduced to those that form Pink Lemon? Check out the lookbook in the gallery above. Head to their Instagram and website for more info, as well the Facebook event for their upcoming wine night on August 5. They’re open everyday, at 255-259 Johnston Street, Abbotsford, until August 7. Keep your eyes peeled on this movement; it seems as though it has just begun.
