Converse has just announced the world-wide launch of the Made by you campaign, celebrating the fans of the classic kick that has been around for nearly 100 years, since 1917. For the 2015 campaign, converse collected a number of distinctly personal Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers from around the globe, and created and curated a collection of portraits of the sneakers by musicians to artists, skaters to fashionistas, the known to the unknown.

“Made by you’ originated from a simple human truth – we all want to be our true, authentic self in this world,” said Ian Stewart, Vice President of Global Marketing. “Fans of Chuck Taylor are the ones who have made Chuck Taylor an iconic badge of creative self-expression. It’s time we celebrated them.”

Sneakers from international icons like Patti Smith, Andy Warhol, Futura, Jefferson Hack, Sayo Yoshida, Kate Lanphear and Glenn O’Brien will be featured alongside those from everyday wearers, and used in exhibitions, which will turn the city streets of the world into art galleries. There are also plans to showcase local communities and subcultures with hyper-local portrait exhibitions around the world.

The concept is, whether they are hand painted, covered in mud or just beaten down from wear; each Chuck Taylor All Star portrait tells a deeply personal story of the transformation from pristine sneaker into a remarkable piece of art. However worn, customized, modified or original, the portraits demonstrate the potential blank canvas of the canvas sneaker.

Stay tuned for local events surrounding the campaign and updates or check the website.
