That super-cheap blue, red, and white striped nylon shopping bag your parents keep your childhood trophies and clothes in are now apparently fashion’s new luxe necessity. Since Demna Gvasalia debuted the revamped market bag down Balenciaga’s runway back in March, there has been a bizarre yet definitely predictable reaction from buyers. Honing in on the same success strategy as Vetements, Demna continues to take everyday products, throw a luxe appropriation down the runway, and subsequently convert controversy into sales. And with the original items available at your local variety store for less than a cup of coffee, these $2600 renditions are obviously turning a nice profit.

That being said, the bag is selling—fast.  And it comes as no surprise due to the item’s distinguishable and functional nature, not to mention the sheer hype/controversy around it, with high-end online  retailers including Matches Fashion and net-a-porter having sold out of most styles and sizes.

So if you have cash to splash, or you’re keen to just check out the leather renditions you can flick through our gallery above.
