National Geographic magazine has published the winners of its annual Traveler Photo Contest, and the results are nothing short of amazing. After receiving over 18,000 entries for 2014, three prizes and seven merit awards were announced.
The winner of the Grand Prize, a photo titled, The Independence Day, shows a supercell storm developing in Tornado Alley, USA. The photographer, Marko Korošec, explains in the caption, “This photograph was taken while we were approaching the storm near Julesburg, Colorado on May 28th, 2013. The storm was tornado warned for more than one hour, but stayed an LP storm through all its cycles and never produced a tornado, just occasional brief funnels, large hail and some rain.” Have a look at the winning photos above.
