Earlier this week, when the LA Times ran an article which claimed that “Hello Kitty is not a cat, the very fabric of the universe started to unravel as people everywhere started questioning everything they ever knew. Is Scooby Doo really a dog? Are Eminem and Slim Shady actually the same person? Does smoking cause cancer? Or does cancer cause smoking?

Well I’d take it easy on the cigs, because the latest revolution in the whole cat/not-cat debate leans pretty heavily towards cat, sort-of. Today a spokesperson for the beloved character’s creators explained to Kotaku “Hello Kitty was done in the motif of a cat. It’s going too far to say that Hello Kitty is not a cat. Hello Kitty is a personification of a cat.” So there it is folks, you can now resume your lives.
