When videos from a mysterious brand called ‘HUVrTech’ were first dropped in March 2014,  showing a ‘working hoverboard’ being ridden around by names such as Tony Hawk, the social media world went into overdrive. The board could ride over any surface, had the ability to perform amazing tricks and could reach quite impressive speeds. While it was hardly a surprise that the ‘HUVrTech Hoverboard’ turned out to be a hoax orchestrated by the guys at FunnyorDie, the video set off the imaginations and determination of many to turn this dream into a reality.

When working prototypes were made by brands such as Lexus, the capabilities and restrictions of them just didn’t fulfil the original hype from the HUVrTech board. However, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Back to the Future trilogy, an ‘official commercial’ has been made for the iconic hoverboard that appears in the films. While the hoverboard in this video is obviously not the real deal, the commercial is worth a suss – especially since October 21st 2015 is the date Marty McFly and Doctor Emmett Brown will reach us, according to the second instalment of the Back to the Future trilogy.
