Weekly updates

Bars is Acclaim’s weekly wrap up of all the music we want you to get in on. Whether it’s new albums, mixtapes, tracks, or videos, we’re here wading through the noise to bring you only the finest happenings in the world of music. Hit the list below to see what we’ve been bumping this week.

01. Young Thug drops 'Beautiful Thugger Girls'

On Friday Thugger dropped his newest Beautiful Thugger Girls and fired off a couple tweets explaining the release date.

Needless to say the internet had mixed reactions. As for the album itself, there’s a lot of talk about the influence of country music on the sound. To be fair the album cover features an acoustic guitar so we were warned. As for features the album’s got Future and Snoop getting involved.

02. 'Natural Woman' by KAIIT

KAIIT’s vocals will do nothing short of stop you in your tracks. Her smooth af voice over neo-soul beats with a twist of jazz is a thing of pure beauty. We’re expecting huge things for her not just in Australia but internationally. Get on it early and ride the wave with us.

03. Watch: 'Drew Barrymore' by SZA

We’ve been all about SZA since she dropped her hotly anticipated album CTRL a couple weeks ago. Now Solána’s followed up with a new video for ‘Drew Barrymore’—one of the standout tracks of the album. Check out the video above and make sure you stick around for a sublime cameo just after the two minute mark.

04. 'Guided by Flux' by Planète

Melbourne producer Planète has released a new track ‘Guided by Flux’, the first taste of new music he’s give us since his huge year in 2016. ‘Guided by Flux’ is a pertinent lesson in mood building and showcases why Planète is worthy of praise as one of Australia’s most intriguing producers.

05. '3 below' by SAINt JHN

Ok, technically this isn’t new music considering it came out a month ago, but we need to give it a mention because it’s being 100% slept on by Australian media. SAINt JHN is a Brooklyn-born rapper who’s already got co-writing credits with Usher and opening slots for Post Malone to his name. He’s been steadily building his base and is getting ready to drop an album this year.

06. 'If You Go' by Villette

New Zealand singer Villette has a lot of buzz right now after a couple of stellar singles. Her style is built around breathy vocals and rap (think Erykah Badu) over R&B backings that she producers herself. With that much talent it’s no wonder she has the world at her feet.

07. 'World of Wonders' by Buddy

Fresh from appearing in Bodega’s newest lookbook, Compton rapper Buddy has dropped a new video for ‘World of Wonder,’ which features a guest appearance from producer Kaytranada. The track is a lighthearted romp that leaves you feeling nothing but pure joy. Buddy’s sure to dominate this year’s American summer so start paying attention before it’s too late.

08. RIP Prodigy

The hip-hop world has lost a giant. How could we run a music column and not pay respect to the man. Rest easy.
