To describe ALTA’s music, you can use all the words or no words at all. Experimental in the truest sense, the Melbourne duo draws influence from as far as trippy electronica to super light pop–often culminating in the one song–and this will surely be showcased in their upcoming EP Awake For Days. If you’re keen to be transported into another realm, make sure to RSVP to their EP launch here. In the meantime, check out our quick Q&A with the duo and stream ‘Alive Again’ below.
Who are you?
Where are you from?
What is unique about your local music scene?
There is some really good stuff around. There are a handful of promoters with some moxxy, taking risks and putting on real interesting stuff. And a lot of bands really pushing it and doing what they like. It feels pretty DIY and everybody supports one another and responds to people going out on a limb.
Describe your sound in three words. Go!
Experimental, Electronic, Pop.
What makes you unique as an artist?
We like jumping between styles and trying out different things.
Have you heard any new music lately? Got any recommendations?
Ohbliv, Mic Terror, Jeremiah Jae, Mndsgn, Photay, Evian Christ, Velous.
Tell us a little about this release.
We love experimenting with different vocal styles, gear, genres and that kind of thing. We decided to really go with it on this one by giving each other complete freedom to do what we want.
What inspired the artwork for this track?
The EP artwork was shot by Melissa Cowan. Han was into nail art and wanted an excuse to get her nails done.
What else are you working on at the moment?
Thighs and abs. Also there’s a curry on the stove at the moment it’s not quite right yet but it’s getting there.
Do you have any shows coming up?
Our EP launch is July 4 at Boney in Melbourne.
