I have been waiting to #ACTIVATE for so long. My LA-based buds Hoodboi, Falcons, Kittens and Promnite have been low-key representing their crew ATHLETIXX for a while now, but only very recently did they start really starting shooting three-pointers. Some recent developments involved DJ Hoodboi turned into Hoodboi and sliding his way into the Fools Gold new class under the guidance of Sensei A-Trak fresh off their Asian tour. Falcons spread his wings and turned into a free agent, also taking on Asia.  Colta turned into Promnite, and is now making his debut in Australia next month. And Kittens, The Queen, has been caught blasting rap tunes at fashion parties and hosting regular baller events such as the Athletixx Swim meet sessions. Across the board, ATHLETIXX have generally dominating the LA circuit. Keep your eyes on the ball, these guys are playing to win. Have a listen to All-Stars Mixtape Vol. 1 below:

EAVESDROPPING ON FALCONS FROM ATHLETIXX

Who are you?

Falcons, aka Yung Birdcall, aka Papi Chulo, aka The Feathered Don, aka Lil Cocoa Butter.

Where are you from?

I am from a lot of places, born in the South, moved to Vancouver, and then migrated to sunny Southern California.

What is unique about your local music scene?

There’s not much beef – it’s all just kinda easy-going and supportive, even if it’s different crews and cliques.

Describe your sound in three words. Go!

Organic booty bounce.

What makes you unique as an artist?

I really don’t give a shit about trends – some inspire me and I’ll put an element or two into my sound, even if I’m dabbling in different tempos and rhythms I think the core of my sound, and sound palette, is always distinguishable.

Have you heard any new music lately? Got any recommendations?

Lately very into tropical stuff – just digging deep into some obscure dancehall and reggaeton – Buraka Som Sistema, my crew, copious amounts of rap, and Cuban music.

Tell us a little about this release.

We formed this crew on New Years cause we saw a place for our sound in LA, and eventually abroad. We’re not trying to be any kinda new genre or anything; we just felt we had a similar sound going on so we should come together. We make all tempos and styles but we have like that unique LA twist on it I think. The tape is just feel-good shit for the club.

What inspired the artwork for this track?

My dude Mark Bulford is just a G. We gave him a few mood boards and let him hear the tracks and he just went buckwild on it. He’s the man.

What else are you working on at the moment?

We’re all working on our solo projects, just working in general… I think there may be a li’l dancehall project coming out through Athletixx soon though. You’ll hear a lot more original content from us in the near future, as well as these kind of tapes.

Do you have any shows coming up?

Part two of a b2b North America tour with Hoodboi, including some big stops like Fools Gold Day Off NYC, Trillectro Festival, and more. In October I’ll be in Europe for the first two weeks, then possibly a lil trip to Australia in what we call winter and you call summer.
