Were you an early adopter of the internet? If so, then you might remember AOL trial discs, the ICQ “uh-oh”, 56k Napster downloads, the ear-piercing tone of dial-up modems and the blinding trend of neon text on black backdrops (shoutout mIRC). If you were a late bloomer, then raise a toast to Mad Decent wunderkinds Swick and Douster for taking things back to lo-fi feels with their collaborative EP Internet Dreams. Now you can experience the full cyber-influenced aesthetic coupled with an obligatory webcam component. Because the internet.

EAVESDROPPING ON SWICK
Who are you?
Where are you from?
Have you heard any new music lately? Got any recommendations?
I’m liking the new Mumdance and Novelist Track ‘Take Time’. Also Douster’s new King Dou Dou remixes are pretty sick! Other than that I’m just hanging for the new Sophie MSMSMSM.
Tell us a little about this release.
Well we were up really late in my garage watching weird MS-DOS videos and stuff, then somehow the jack found its way into my laptop and we recorded all these crazy YouTubes we were watching. The music we started making was already this vibe without really thinking about it too. We also wanted to create the website too so people could get the whole experience, and also cause it’s really fun. Just recently we both watched and re-watched Hackers and Johnny Mnemonic and I also just finished Watch Dogs, so, yeah, we were definitely all ready to go!
What inspired the artwork?
Hacking the planet.
What’s the story behind the video?
We wanted to include all the stuff that inspired us to make the music in a short clip. It’s also cool for the listener to see what is going on in your head. I love it all but I think my favourite are the clips for the ’56K Desert Connection’ track.
What else are you working on at the moment?
Next up I’ve got a weird club track with Bot (ex-Crookers) coming on Main Course as well as some other fun stuff soon!
Keep up with Eavesdrop here.
