Welcome to Acclaim Magazine’s Heat of the Week. Here are our picks for the best new local and international releases — Don’t forget to follow our Spotify playlist too, it’s updated every Friday.

01. The Kid Laroi - Go ft. Juice WRLD

Sydney’s The Kid Laroi continues his hot streak with ‘Go’, an ear-catching anthem featuring his late, great mentor Juice WRLD. Both artists hit bullseyes with their croons over banging 808s and jangling guitars courtesy of producers Tito Beats, Neek, and Omar Fedi. It really is your typical The Kid Laroi track; catchy and creative.

02. Jorja Smith - Rose Rogue

Legendary labels Decca Records and Blue Note have joined forces for Blue Note Re:imagined; a collection of classic Blue Note tracks reworked by host of new jazz, soul and R&B acts. Jorja Smith’s contribution to the album is a cover of St Germain’s ‘Rose Rouge’ that takes its cues from classic soul, jazz and reggae with Jorja carefully placing vocal work on top of a free-flowing 7-minute jam.

03. KVKA - WOW

WOW’ is a smorgasbord of sounds. Earworm hooks, high-amplitude rapping, moshpit-ready adlibs, the Zambia-born, Melbourne-based artist is leaving no musical stone unturned. Production from Deer matches the full-speed energy of KVKA, as he swerves and switches lanes, with synths hitting like seismic waves. It’s the first single from KVKA’s upcoming EP, which we need ASAP.

04. BBG Smokey - Guidance

BBG Smokey is the second rapper to release new heat from Melbourne hip-hop collective 66 records, following up from his label-mate Eco$ystem who dropped ‘Hop Out’ last month. BBG snaps to action on his new track ‘Guidance’, a quick-hitter that’s packed with references to the purple stuff—perfect for fans of NBA YoungBoy or Polo G.

05. Tyla Yaweh - Tommy Lee ft. Post Malone

Tommy Lee’ delves into the glamour of Tyla Yaweh’s current lifestyle, as he sings, “I’m livin’ life like a rockstar, pullin’ up stretch limousine.” Tapping the guitar-smashing, beer-pong champion Post Malone to sing alongside him. Catchy enough to “kickstart your heart” with kicks that hit as hard as the drummer the song is named after. Safe to say, the pair tapped into some Motley Crüe energy on this one.
