The enigmatic Swedish electronic duo are sheathing The Knife for good. Siblings Karin and Olof Dreijer, who started the band in 1999, revealed the news in an interview with Dazed. “We will close down, it’s our last tour. We don’t have any obligations to continue.”
The reclusive band have long kept fans guessing towards their next actions. With their numerous hiatuses from creating music and long periods of relative silence, notably during Karin’s solo Fever Ray EP in 2006. However the band’s dissolution comes as a shock to many.
Those lucky enough to be attending the European leg of their tour finishing off at the Airwaves Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland will get a chance to see their last perfomance.
The rest of us will just have to hopefully wait for what comes next. While Olof has hinted at a future collaboration with Tunisian artist Houwaida Hedfi, Karin has remained decisively vague, stating, “When we finish The Knife’s last run in mid-November, I will start thinking about what is to come next!”
