Whilst reading through the liner notes on Death Grips’ Government Plates, a Reddit user recently discovered that Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson is credited for “additional guitar” on the track ‘Birds’. The unlikely collaboration was hinted at last year when the star was photographed hanging out with the noise band and pop-queen Beyonce. Does this mean Rob also played guitar on ‘Drunk In Love’? Probably not, but anything’s possible right?
According to Pitchfork, Zach Hill recorded Pattinson playing guitar with his iPhone, and the sample later found it’s way onto the track.
Pattinson’s’ not the first leading man to collaborate with an established band: spiritual bro and fellow guitarist Johnny Depp worked magic with the lead singer of the Butthole Surfers back in the 90s in an under-appreciated project titled ‘P’. Their best track, ‘I Save Cigarette Butts’, is an uplifting slacker anthem that every pizza-loving couch potato would set as their ringtone if they knew it existed.
Hopefully Pattinson can keep his Depp-spiration confined to the music-world and avoid the whole ‘big-budget face-paint character’ direction Johnny has taken of late.
