PREMIERE: Sevy Keeps the Heat on With New Track ‘Chop It’

The Sydney artist extends the Summer with a visual for his vibey new release.

Sydney-based Zambian rapper Sevy has stormed onto our radar recently, first with his collaborative EP notfromhere alongside fellow Sydney artist Bayang, and then following up with ‘Ting’—a doomy banger accompanied by an intriguingly stark video which earned Sevy an FBi Radio SMAC award nomination last year.

Today we catch Sevy linking up with producer Utility once again on ‘Chop It’, a playful track that’s bound to prick the ears of any afro-swing fans out there. The accompanying video was shot in Sydney by Jeremy Elphick and features the upcoming artist laying down the good vibes at the most Inner-West pool party of all time, as Sevy’s crew throw a fly Summer function inside a warehouse.

With an underlying influence from UK artists like J Hus and Sam Wise, Sevy comes armed with his own unique flavour; painlessly spelling it out over Utility’s tropical toolkit and exploring a range of addictive melodies. As the Sydney rap cinematic universe continues to expand, Sevy is confidently rocking in his own lane and that’s exactly what we like about him. If ‘Chop It’ is anything to go by, there are only good things to come!

‘Chop It’ is out now via Trackwork — follow Sevy here, Utility here and check out the video above.
