How much do you really know about the origin stories of your favourite rap scenes? Documentary DMV is the brainchild of London-based director Undine Markus and producer Abhimanyu Janamanchi, looking at the importance of collaboration amongst the local talent in order to once and for all put the area on the map. Through interviews with the likes of Lightshow, Phil Ade, Jay IDK, Chaz French, and Innanet James to name a few, the project explores the legacy of the go-go genre and its impact on the rap scene in the region.

Throughout the filming, the team were joined by the 22-year-old DMV photographer, Rodrigo Villordo, AKA Rigo, who has already managed to cement himself as a go-to documentarian in the industry. In support of the film, as well as the community that nurtured his career, Rigo produced a series of portraits, which we are proud to premiere online. Get familiar with the faces of DMV in the gallery above.

DMV premieres online on February 15, alongside celebratory events by Noble People and Fête Records – London, Feb 9; and New York, Feb 12 (free with RSVP to [email protected]
