Trendsetting fashion giant American Apparel has taken shots at US presidential candidate Donald Trump in their new Pride ‘16 clothing range. Obviously being a play on the Republican’s provocative “Make America Great Again” slogan, the range features rainbow coloured “Make America Gay Again” slogans on white backdrops – mostly tees, totes, and tank tops. It’s even slapped on a red cap which bears a likeness to Trump’s own aesthetically questionable red cap.

According to American Apparel’s website the new line represents “acceptance – no matter who you are, where you’re from or who you love”. In addition, 30 per cent of the proceeds will be going towards the Equality Act, which was passed by the American Supreme Court last year, and the fight to end discrimination of LGBTQ people around the world.

The line has been supported by a series of vignettes produced by American Apparel employees, who describe their own views on the ongoing plight of LGBTQ people. One woman named Alex likened the queer community’s struggle to last century’s Civil Rights Movement, saying, “It’s a time to support each other… because you never know what’s going to happen next”.

Take a look at the range above and find out more about the campaign here.
