Famed fashion designer Oscar de La Renta has died at age 82, a family member told ABC News. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. Details of his death are unconfirmed.
The designer, who was born in the Dominican Republic, has risen to become one of the most prolific and prosperous icons in the fashion industry. The legend most recently designed Amal Amaluddin’s dress for her famous wedding to George Clooney last month.
de La Renta frequently produced elegant designs for some of the most influential women alive, including Jaqueline Kennedy, Hillary Clinton and Oprah. In 1967 and 1968, de la Renta won the Coty Award and in 1973 was inducted into the Coty Hall of Fame. He also received the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990.
