Postcards: Kimberly K. Canales-Ascui in Solomon Islands

I was sitting on the floor with hundreds of kids watching the local talent show. Everyone was eagerly watching but I had just arrived to the Islands and was more fascinated in who I was sitting with.

Main means of transport around Honiara is either catching a bus (a privately owned mini bus) or walking.

I documented this road quite a bit as it is the only one in Honiara, Solomon Islands. It’s what connected the people from the jungle to the main city. This road meant that children had the opportunity to go to school and families had more sources of income.

There’s a lot to look forward to when you’re travelling to any kind of tropical island but often the most magical moments are those that happen at the heart of the local community. One of our good friends, Melbourne photographer Kimberly K. Canales-Ascui, recently visited the idyllic Solomon Islands and experienced this magic first-hand.
