There’s no way to introduce a Kanye interview without taking into consideration that a lot of people don’t like Kanye. Something about an artist being incredibly outspoken seems to piss a lot of people off and maybe what pisses them off more is that Ye simply continues to be as unapologetic as ever. So for those of you who are on board to hear what this man has to say, this is a fucking interview and a half.

Joining Annie Mac on BBC radio, and covering everything from eating his greens (talking about actual broccoli here people) to forgetting his lyrics back in Glastonbury, Kanye speaks on the way the world is evolving into a space ripe for artists and creative minds alike. Now is the time to make and create and Ye is here to preach it all. In fact, the way he speaks definitely paints the picture that this is without doubt ‘a god dream’. Listen to the full interview below as well as the highlights we pulled out that very much make up the gospel of Kanye.

01. Kanye 9:55 - Make the most of your time

“You only have 100 years on the planet if you’re lucky,” he says. “What are you doing that’s pushing people and touching and, like, inspiring people and letting them have piece of this good life that’s hidden behind a certain finical bracket or hidden on the other side of Instagram.”

02. Kanye 10:23 - Let there be Ikea

After speaking on the importance of doing something in your 100-something years, he then segues into this announcement: “I have to work with Ikea”. Same?

“Yo IKEA, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing because you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes — I want more products from Ye.” Yep, Kanye Rest wants to make beds for students. He “knows” that he could make a minimalist apartment and we’re sure they’d probably outstrip any MALM bed set.

03. Kanye 11:19 - Dream big kids

Ye touches on the fact he is held in a “some kind of a social prison” for speaking the truth and sometimes being “a bit rude”. Yet he decides to cut that part of the convo off for fear of people turning what he’s saying into a “rant” and takes a positive turn instead: “How about dreaming out loud? How about feeling that something can happen to make the world better and inspire people? Is that OK for one second?”

04. Kanye 5:51 - Art, art, art

That “chop-up-the-beats Kanye” is definitely shining through as he says  “people couldn’t give an F about how many cars you got any more. It’s about the way the music sounds, where you’re going, the experience you’re going to hanging out with your friends, the type clothes that you’re wearing – all of that’s art.”

05. Kanye 18:01 - Yeezy for President

“We are numb, we’re numb to 500 kids getting killed in Chicago a year, we’re numb to the fact that it was seven police shootings in the beginning of July,” he said.

“We’re numb to places on the earth that we don’t live – like our life is okay but it’s okay for other people’s lives to not be okay. When I talk about the idea of being president, I’m not saying I have any political views, I don’t have views on politics, I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth. If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while I’m alive I’m going to try to do it.”

06. Kanye 9:14 - Style should be accessible

To adidas, Ye said “I know you’ve never made a shoe under $50 but we have to make a shoe that costs $30 and I’m gonna be the coolest shoe of all.” Indeed, Kanye wants to take everything he knows and bring it “to the people.”

“To me, this thing I’m saying is the thing I’m most excited about of anything I’ve ever done. To be able to take all of what I’ve learnt from the best designers and making collections with fashion people ripping me up alive and dissing me saying don’t quit your day job and all that, to be able to get to the point of being able to make something that everyone can touch and have that visibility.”

Amen.
